PLAY IS NOT FRIVOLOUS

Using the DIRFloortime® framework Helen curates play experiences that activate development within the context of human relationships.  Instead of zooming in on 'the problem' Helen looks at the bigger picture through a Developmental, Individual differences, Relationship-centered (DIR) lens.

Determining and respecting what a child finds interesting is Helen's first step in promoting the child's developmental potential.   Helen then consciously and deliberately expands on this natural interest in a way that is meaningful to them.  Helen believes that children's development can be best nurtured through playful interactions between a caregiver and their child.  In Helen's work the interactive nature of play is the catalyst for developmental growth and integration.

During the play Helen coaches caregivers to attune to their child to better understand their child's experience of the world and foster their developmental needs.  Helen curates practical strategies that facilitate the child’s capacity to regulate, engage, and interact.  Using this approach, Helen supports each child to reach their fullest potential, while caregivers move from concern to appreciation of who their child is and relish in the joy of facilitating their child's development.

A FOUNDATION FOR EFFECTIVE FLOORTIME PLAY

The prime objective of Helen's DIR® Profile Building process is to enable specifically targeted and effective support to be developed:  tailored to your child’s unique strengths and vulnerabilities.  Research shows that DIRFloortime® infused assessments and play lead to wonderful developmental progress for children and their families.  A combination of play based observations, structured play activities, caregiver questionnaires, standardized and non-standardized tests and caregiver interviews are used to gain a comprehensive picture of your family’s needs and build your child's DIR® Profile.

Through this process Helen seeks to understand your child.  Through understanding a child's individual differences and how these impact their regulation and availability to be playful, Helen is able to curate play experiences to support their development.

IS YOUR CHILD’S PLAYSPACE READY FOR PLAY?

Toys!  It can feel like they are everywhere. A playspace full of toys can be overwhelming and distracting to some children. Too many choices that are disorganized can make it difficult to find a toy to play with.

Development cannot be forced, but together we can create an environment that entices your child into interaction and facilitates connection.  Interacting with their world supports a child's meaningful development.  We will combine our expertise  to understand your child's sensory and motor needs and create a welcoming, supportive playspace for your family.  Together we can tame your toy clutter and curate play materials that are intrinsically motivating and meet your child’s specific needs.
